| Born in Westmoreland County, Virginia, his formal piano lessons began at age seven. Later he graduated college with both a Bachelor of Science and Masters of Music Education degrees in music. In addition Richard received the prestigious Kodaly Certification from the University of North Texas. Richard has been in the music field for two decades. His honors have included nominations for Agnes Meyers Teacher Award, Virginia State Teacher of the Year and a listing in Outstanding Young Men of America as well as various other recognition's from his peers. After taking a master class in piano with the world renowned Natalie Hinderas, Richard has performed for the Alexandria Performing Arts Society, the Archdiocesan Mass Choir of Washington, D.C., the Alexandria Choral Society and as a music director of various churches.
Richard's music is meditative, penetrating, and inspirational. Richard Payne has been described as "Soul and Spirit" at the Piano. His recording, "Unconditional Love" is a collection of original piano selections. Each piece of music reflects his sensitivity and introspective philosophy of life. Unconditional Love is eight musical pieces that flow through a variety of musical changes. Its mellow perspective will provide the listener with an uplifting...inspiring experience.
